Eric Friedmann has been a fixture on the Bay Area music scene since the
mid-eighties, and in that time has played in no fewer than twenty bands on
various instruments up and down the West Coast, the Midwest, and Europe.
In addition, he has worked as a producer and engineer in various studios,
recording hundreds of local and regional bands, as well as being involved
in musical productions for Comedy Central and ABC Television. In 1992 he
founded Solana Records, and has recorded and released albums by some of
the Bay Area's most promising talent such as Enda, Delectric, and The
'Wags. The summer of 2001 saw Delectric on tour in Sweden, which was a
tremendous success. Eric also is the proprietor of The Sandbox, a small
recording studio in the Sunset District of San Francisco.
Eric Friedmann and The Lucky Rubes is Eric's newest ensemble, with
Eric on guitar and vocals, featuring long-time collaborator Steve
Schneider on guitar and vocals, Mike Nelson on drums, and Russel
Pickett on bass. The simple, stripped down sound of the band reminds
the listener of the greatest guitar and vocal-based artists such as
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Elvis Costello, Dave Edmunds, The
Plimsouls, Cheap Trick, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Beach Boys,
and Nick Lowe. Eric takes the influences of the above artists and adds
a distinctive edge, separating him from the crowd of modern
singer-songwriters. The songs are light in sentiment and delivery,
rich in tone and arrangement, soaring in progression, evocative and
respectful of the most valued traditions of real rock and roll.
